System Failure's Chat is powered by XMPP. It supports personal chats, groups, channels, etc. Unlike most commercial instant messaging protocols, XMPP is an open standard in the application layer. The architecture of the XMPP network is similar to email; anyone can run their own server and there is no central master server. It means, on Chat, you can comminucate with anyone who has an XMPP account, just like how an email account owner can communicate with other email account owners.

You can optionally publish your works to the fediverse. It means anyone on the fediverse (Mastodon, Pleroma, or any service that supports ActivityPub) can read, share, or even follow your blog.
